PS I looked for a chapter 5 of your fan fic (cuz I couldn't get enough after ch4) but I couldn't find one
For your fanfic, there are quite a few ways in which you could start a story, for example, my prologue was set in the past. But you could aslo start it off as introducting your characters while the changing of the guard is in motion, eg, your male character could just be walking through High Charity, showing what he sees and how he feels about this. Then you could find a way to introduce your female character. Also, bear in mind that when your introducting characters, try to think of ways to make the reader catch interest in them.
PS I'm not sure if its true for everyone, but sometimes the character usually take over the writer, which makes it slightly easier in my case (cause that's what happened to me lol). Good luck.
